Remember when you were in grade school and your class had show & tell? You would bring in your favorite Darth Vader toy (well I did) and tell your class why he was the coolest thing in the whole galaxy.
Well, content aggregation is marketing’s version of showing off your favorite Sith figure.
There is so much amazing content being produced on the interwebs, there is no way you can see it all. So you have to rely on social media channels such as Twitter, e-newsletters from leading marketing blogs like Social Media Examiner, or aggregating platforms like Prismatic to learn about the latest happenings in your industry. From an individual standpoint, it’s good to be up to speed on the newest technologies and practices, so you can be more effective at what you do. But you also need to tell others about it as well, whether they be co-workers, customers or prospects.
It’s all about mind share…..and that’s what we are doing here with Wakefly’s Wicked Good Reads.
“Being In The Know” is critical when it comes to digital marketing. You want to show your customers that you are an industry thought leader. You want to provide content that will make their lives/jobs easier. At the end of the day, no one really cares about your products/services. They want to know how you can help solve their problems.
The 80/20 rule is something you should abide by in digital marketing. You should be aggregating interesting content 80% of the time and promoting your own brand just 20% of the time. By reaching this happy medium, you will build trust amongst your online communities of fans, prospects and customers.
SHOW how you solve problems and your customers will TELL you why you are the coolest thing in the whole galaxy.
